“ Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm. ”
- Winston Churchill
Mistakes, mishaps, and failures know no names or titles - they simply happen to everyone. Unfortunately, we have been taught to walk away as soon as we hit a wall, questioning our abilities and values. What one is most afraid of is not committing a mistake or not accomplishing a task, but the bad rep failure brings along with it.
A change in how we perceive failure as an individual and as a society needs a change. Being vulnerable and accepting bad decisions is seen as a sign of weakness in our society, but in reality, it is a trait that can help you overcome your failures and navigate you towards success. This behavior of looking down on failures creates a psychological danger in society, where people fail to openly accept their mistakes.
We need to create psychological safety, where people are able to show themselves and be vulnerable without the fear of negative consequences of self-image, status or career. Once we succeed in creating an environment where people can be vulnerable and transparent, we enable people at all levels at the society to be more resilient and in turn, more focus is placed on picking ourselves up, not keeping each other down.
Failure is a part of life, but talking about it has been a societal no-go for the longest time. We are aiming to change this mindset in our own city by bringing a global event happening across 300+ cities in the world, where people take to the stage and talk about their professional failures and what were the reasons behind it without any filter.
